At one time, Pigg Park was the center of Pageland’s activity.
There were youth baseball games followed by picnics at the pavilion. You could take a walk through the woods to the town pond.
Today, there is no electric power at the pavilion and the roof needs repair.
Dugouts on the baseball field were in such poor shape that the town recently tore them down.
The sport of choice is soccer. Sunday is a popular day for soccer at the park.
There are new nets on the basketball court.
The town has two choices when it comes to the pond, it can either remove the earthen dam or improve it. The decision is not immediate, but at some point the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control will force the town to make a costly decision.
Some want to see more done at the park. They see an opportunity to maximize a town resource, adding amenities such as an amphitheater, a walking trail around the lake and playground equipment. An improved park could help attract industries, as well as new residents.
